Import Export Code (IEC) Registration

The mandatory code for any business importing into or exporting from India.

Overview

What an IEC is

The Import Export Code is a 10-digit code issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). It is mandatory for importing or exporting goods or services from India, with only limited exceptions.

The IEC is now PAN-based — the code is the entity's PAN — and has lifetime validity, but it must be updated on the DGFT portal every year, even if there is no change, or it is deactivated.
