Overview

What ESI registration is

Employees' State Insurance is a self-financing social-security and health-insurance scheme under the ESI Act, 1948, administered by the ESIC. It gives covered employees and their dependants medical care and a range of cash benefits.

It applies to non-seasonal establishments employing 10 or more persons (20 in some states), and covers employees drawing wages up to ₹21,000 a month (₹25,000 for persons with disability).

The employer contributes 3.25% and the employee 0.75% of wages.

How registration works

  1. 01

    Assemble establishment and employee details

    Collect the registration, bank, and employee particulars.

  2. 02

    Register on the ESIC portal

    Apply through Shram Suvidha and obtain the 17-digit employer code.

  3. 03

    Register employees

    Enrol covered employees and generate their insurance (IP) numbers.

  4. 04

    Run monthly compliance

    File and pay contributions by the 15th of the following month.
