What factory plan approval is
Before constructing or operating a factory, the Factories Act, 1948 requires approval of the factory building plans and a factory licence from the state Directorate of Factories (Chief Inspector of Factories).
The review covers layout, worker safety, ventilation, and the placement of machinery. A 'factory' is broadly a premises with 10 or more workers using power, or 20 or more without power.
